About Reversi Multiplayer
Reversi Multiplayer is a two-player strategy game played on an eight-by-eight board. Your aim is to own more pieces than your opponent when the game is over. You can play the computer, share one device with a friend, or go online.
Reversi was invented in England in the 1880s, and a later version became famous under the name Othello. The lead can swing wildly from one move to the next, so the player who looks far behind in the middle of a game may still win it.
How to play
- The game starts with four pieces in the centre of the board.
- On your turn, tap a cell to place a piece. Your move must trap at least one enemy piece between your new piece and another of yours.
- All the trapped pieces flip over to your colour.
- If you have no legal move, your turn passes to your opponent.
- When neither player can move, the player with the most pieces wins.
These are the usual rules. If the game shows you something different on screen, follow the game.
Tips
- Take the corners whenever you can. A corner piece can never be flipped.
- Avoid the squares next to an empty corner. They often hand the corner to your opponent.
- Do not grab the most pieces early on. Having fewer pieces mid-game often leaves you with more options.
- Try to limit the moves available to your opponent. Forcing a bad move is stronger than making a big flip.
Questions about Reversi Multiplayer
Is Reversi the same as Othello?
They are very close. Othello is a later version of Reversi with a fixed starting position.
What happens if I cannot move?
Your turn is skipped and your opponent moves again. The game ends when neither player can move.
