Tic Tac Toe Multiplayer

Noughts and crosses against the computer, a friend on the same device or an online player.

About Tic Tac Toe Multiplayer

Tic Tac Toe Multiplayer is the simplest game on the site. Play the computer alone, pass one device between two people, or go online. It is laid out for a tall screen, so it suits a phone held upright.

Also known as noughts and crosses, or XO, it is often the first strategy game a child learns. Between two careful players the game always ends in a draw, so the fun lies in catching someone in a mistake.

How to play

  1. The board is a three-by-three grid. One player is X and the other is O.
  2. Players take turns tapping an empty square to place their mark.
  3. The first to make a line of three wins, whether across, down or diagonally.
  4. If all nine squares fill up with no line, the game is a draw.

These are the usual rules. If the game shows you something different on screen, follow the game.

Tips

  • Take a corner first. It gives your opponent the most ways to go wrong.
  • If your opponent opens in a corner, take the centre. Anything else can lose by force.
  • Aim for a fork: one move that creates two lines of two at once. Your opponent can only block one.
  • Always check for an immediate win before you block, and for a block before you build.
