Backgammon Multiplayer

Roll doubles and bear off checkers in this Middle Eastern favourite with slick touch controls.

About Backgammon Multiplayer

Backgammon Multiplayer brings one of the world's oldest board games online, with tap controls that work well on a phone. You can play the computer, share one device with a friend, or go online. It is a favourite in cafés across the Middle East, where it is known as tawla or takhteh.

Each game mixes dice with real decisions. You cannot control what you roll, but you do decide how to use it, and that is where experienced players pull ahead.

How to play

  1. Each player has 15 checkers placed on the 24 narrow triangles, called points. Tap a triangle to move.
  2. Roll two dice and move your checkers by each number. Doubles are played four times.
  3. You cannot land on a point held by two or more enemy checkers.
  4. Land on a single enemy checker and you send it to the bar. It must re-enter before that player can move anything else.
  5. Once all 15 of your checkers are in your home board, you can start bearing them off.
  6. The first player to bear off all 15 wins.

These are the usual rules. If the game shows you something different on screen, follow the game.

Tips

  • Avoid leaving single checkers within reach of your opponent, where they can be hit.
  • Build points next to each other. A row of them forms a wall your opponent cannot pass.
  • Learn the standard openings. With a 3-1, make your five-point.
  • If you fall well behind, switch to holding a point deep in your opponent's side and wait for a shot.
